Anglers should be at the fishing hut for 8.45am ready to start at 9.00am, lunch is between 1.00 and 2.00pm when the pools are rested before the afternoon fishing which ends at 5.00pm. There is no fishing on the beat after this time.
No, it is now compulsory to release any fish caught to try and preserve the numbers of fish in the river.
The banks of the river run alongside farmland on which sheep are grazed and therefore anglers are not allowed to have their dogs off the lead. As there can be twelve people in the hut at lunchtime dogs are not allowed inside. Dogs should be kept in the car and exercised on the lead.
The beat stretches to over 2 miles on both banks. It is possible to drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle to most of the beats with only a short walk required. The beats on the opposite bank to the hut can be reached by boat or by driving around.
All the pools are named and the ghillie will place each angler on the river in the morning and usually they will then rotate with another person around 11.30 and again at 2.00pm. The ghillie will do his best to make sure everyone has the best opportunity of catching a fish depending on whether they prefer to fly fish or spin.
Normally this is just unfortunate but at the discretion of the ghillie it may be possible to rearrange a day later in the week, depending on the time of year and how booked up the beat is.
