What a difference a week makes. After our sunny opening day, the Tay showed its true power this week as the river transformed into a raging torrent, peaking at nearly ten feet above summer levels.
Managing the Rise
High water isn’t just a challenge for fishing; it’s a full-time job for the team. We’ve been keeping a constant watch on the boat, ensuring it stays secure and clear of debris as the water levels fluctuate rapidly.
Current Conditions: The Gean Tree
The sheer volume of water is best seen at our Upper Gean Tree beat. Usually, the tree stands high and dry above the bank, but as you can see in the photo, the river has claimed the shoreline.
- Status: Currently unfishable.
- The Outlook: We are waiting for the levels to drop another six feet before we can safely get lines back in the water.
The river is in charge for now, but we’re ready and waiting for the “drop” that usually brings the fish right along with it.
